Former Manchester United Manager Louis Van Gaal has retired for “family reasons.”

The 65-year-old Dutchman appears to have called time on his career, saying “I do not think I will be returning to coaching.”

LVG has been out of work ever since his exit from Old Trafford at the end of last season, and told Dutch newspapers he has rejected offers from the Far East – claiming one such deal, was worth 44m in just THREE seasons.

“I could go there, but I’m stil here, so much has happened in my family.”

After spells at Ajax, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Holland, Van Gaal said after he left United that he was still very much interested in coaching, but it seems that since reports that his daughter lost her husband last month – he no longer feels a return to the job is best for him or his family.

“I thought maybe I would stop, then I thought it would be a sabbatical, but now I do not think I will return to coaching.”

In his last season with Manchester United, he guided them to the FA Cup after a 2-1 victory at Wembley in his final game as boss – this was also the 20th major honour of his career.

His accolades over the years certainly aren’t to be sniffed at, including seven league titles, four national ups, two UEFA Super Cups, the Intercontinental Cup, a UEFA Cup and of course, the Uefa Champions League.

Despite difficult moments whilst in charge of Manchester United – Van Gaal was still very much respected and loved by many a fan in the Red side of Manchester, with many sorry to see him go, even with the struggles they had faced under his leadership.

Regardless of how his final season made some fans feel, there is no denying that the Dutchman was a real talent, and the beautiful game will surely miss yet another great mind.
