Crystal Palace are close to signing Patrice Evra from Juventus, according to reports in Italy.

Multiple clubs have been rumored to be interested in the signing of the former Manchester United left-back, but as things stands Palace are favorites to win the Frenchman’s signature.

If the deal goes through, Evra will return to the Premier League two-and-a-half years since he transferred from Old Trafford to Juventus for ÂŁ5.5m.

Palace boss Sam Allardyce said on Thursday that the South London sides priority would be to deal with issues in defense, stating the club are interested in bringing in “two or three players.”

35-year-old Evra enjoyed a successful spell whilst at Manchester United, winning 5 Premier League titles, 3 League cups, and a UEFA Champions League during his time in Manchester.

With Juventus, he has won 2 Serie A titles, and 2 Coppa Italia’s – meaning Palace will be signing a very experienced player, used to success.

Evra’s age may be a slight concern for some Palace fans, but the experience he will bring to a struggling back line will almost certainly be a benefit – whereas, Manchester United fans must feel disappointed, seeing a fan favorite at Old Trafford return to the Premier League, but not for the Red Devils.
