Jose Mourinho has revealed that he wants a top-four finish for his Manchester United side, after the Red Devils emerged victorious against Tottenham today.

A goal from Henrikh Mkhitaryan settled the game at Old Trafford, billed by some as a ‘must-win’ match for any league ambitions United harboured this term.

Speaking after the game, the Portuguese admitted that his side needed to stop the run of draws that were holding them back in terms of Champions League qualification for next season.

He said: “In terms of the evolution of the team the result is just a plus, and if our objective is to improve and improve and improve and arrive one day as soon as possible to the title, the evolution would not suffer with a defeat.

“But we still have our ambitions this season and to win this match puts us in a position where we can fill them.

“We are in touch with fifth, with fourth. We were six points from Tottenham. If we lose, it is nine.”

Mourinho went on to add that he is concerned that United are not scoring enough goals.

He added:

“We played very well. Tottenham is a complete team so to win against them we need to play very well which we did.

“If you concede one goal and score four it is beautiful but the problem is we don’t score.

“I think Mkhitaryan is man of the match but if you have a trophy for a second, give to Lloris.

“The save he makes after 50 seconds is a goal save and then another and then another. Then the post. The good thing is we mange not ton concede.”
