Goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielder Nick Powell are among four players that have been released by Manchester United.

Powell arrived at Manchester United in 2012 from Crewe, but has spent much of his time away from Old Trafford, with loan spells at Wigan Athletic, Leicester City, and Hull City.

His playing time at United has also been disrupted by injuries

Spanish stopper Valdes only signed for United at the start of last year, having been at the club for a couple of months beforehand in a bid to gain fitness.

His time with United has not been very kind to him however, and he was placed on the transfer list by now ex-manager Louis van Gaal for allegedly refusing to play in a reserve fixture.

For part of last season he was loaned out to Belgian club Standard Liege, and helped them defeat Club Brugge 2-1 in the Belgian Cup Final.

They let him go in April after deciding to give more young players a chance at the club.

Completing the quartet of Old Trafford departures are goalkeeper George Dorrington and midfielder Oliver Rathbone.
