Manchester United confirm that midfielder Marouane Fellaini has left the club on a permanent transfer to Chinese side Shandong Luneng Taishan FC.

The Belgian international at Old Trafford from Everton in August 2013, when David Moyes was in charge of the team. He has featured 119 times in the Premier League for the Red Devils, scoring 12 times. He made a total of 177 appearances in all competitions.

It was revealed earlier this week that the 31-year-old was a subject of interest from many clubs in China. The CSL window remains open till 28th February, hence, the outgoing of the player was possible even after the English transfer deadline.

In terms of the major honours won at Old Trafford, Fellaini had an hand in United winning FA Cup, EFL Cup, Europa League and the Community Shield.

Under the previous management of Jose Mourinho, he was one of the pivotal substitute players in the squad, and was brought on to change games more often than not. Mourinho considered him as one of the most important players in the team.

However, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in charge, it was pretty obvious that the style of play will change and it will be very tough for the Belgian to adjust to this. Hence, it makes sense from the clubs’ as well as from the player’s point of view to part ways.
