The Portuguese believes his side warrant being higher in the table

Jose Mourinho is concerned that Manchester United are not picking up the points they deserve following their draw away to Everton.

A late Leighton Baines penalty was enough to steal a point for the Toffees, who had fell behind to a first-half strike from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

It’s a fourth draw in five Premier League matches for the Red Devils, having drawn back-to-back home games against Arsenal and West Ham.

But Mourinho believes his club have deserved to win their past three matches, which saw Olivier Giroud score a late winner at Old Trafford, while they had to come from behind following a second-minute Diafra Sakho goal for the Hammers last weekend.

“I am concerned because we don’t get results we deserve,” said Mourinho.

“When my teams play matches in a different style what matters is style of football.

“When you have teams playing defensive counter attack football they get praise.

“When my team is playing well the results are important. I am pleased my team is playing well.

“It is a problem that our position in the table is not a reflection of our performances. If you tell me in any one of our draws we were more close than our opponents.

“This season, what matters is the results not the quality of football.”

United sit sixth, six points short of Tottenham directly above them, and nine points short of local rivals Manchester City, who sit fourth following their 3-1 home defeat to Chelsea on Saturday.

Mourinho currently is some way off the target of returning the Red Devils to European football this season, but will be hopeful his side can soon turn draws into wins.
