The Portuguese has FINALLY agreed a move to Old Trafford

Manchester United have secured the managerial appointment of former Chelsea and Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho, according to reports.

The media in Portugal have reported leaked news in the 53-year-old’s native Portugal, that he will take over from Louis Van Gaal this summer.

United had been under some recent pressure to secure the services of Mourinho, after Paris Saint-Germain had made an approach for the Portuguese last week.

It is understood the club will announce the appointment in the next couple of weeks, after Mourinho signed the deal at the end of last week. And have been hoping to keep the appointment quite, to avoid distraction to their involvement in the FA Cup semi-final against Everton on Saturday.

Mourinho’s wishlist

The former Chelsea boss hasn’t even been announced, officially, as the new manager yet, but has already drawn up a list of targets he believes the club will need in order to return to the Champions League and challenging for league titles.

And further good news for United fans is the potential return of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the Real Madrid star sharing the same agent, Jorge Mendes, as Mourinho. The Red Devils believe they could lure the Portugal forward away from the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Red Devils look set to miss out on the Champions League next season, after making an early exit from the competition in the group stages this campaign, meaning the new boss will have to start his United career in the Europa League.

Current Red Devils boss Van Gaal recently admitted that he believes his job isn’t safe, even if United win the FA Cup – after a late goal from Anthony Martial in injury time sent United to the final, after seeing off Everton, on Saturday.
