Tottenham winger Andros Townsend is close to completing a move to Newcastle United.

The England winger is believed to be in advanced talks with the North East club over a ÂŁ12m deal, according to StarSport.

With Euro 2016, competition for the Three Lions squad is sure to be fierce. Townsend knows this, and hopes a move to the Geordies will improve his chances of impressing England boss Roy Hodgson.

Toon boss Steve McClaren has been fairly active in the January transfer window, already bringing in Jonjo Shelvey from Swansea City and Henri Saivet from Bordeaux.

It appears that Townsend will be the next signing, and the long-suffering Newcastle fans hope the new signings can help pull clear of the relegation zone.

Townsend has ten England caps and three goals, but has dropped out of the international scene in recent years.

He missed the 2014 World Cup due to injury.

He joined the Tottenham academy aged eight, and has spent a lot of time out on loan during his time at White Hart Lane, with spells at nine different clubs.
