Tottenham midfielder Oliver Skipp is still two weeks away from a return to action

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a major injury setback ahead of their forthcoming Premier League match against Newcastle United.

Despite Antonio Conte’s hopes that the 21-year-old would be fit for Newcastle’s visit this Sunday, the England U21 international is no closer to returning to first-team training.

While any player being sidelined due to injury would be frustrating for a manager, considering how important Skipp is to Conte, and the 52-year-old previously suggesting that the youngster could make a return to first-team action this weekend, the news that the midfielder is no closer to recovering from his knock is sure to have left the Italian fuming.

He’s getting better, and the 21-year-old is training outside, but he’s still working with sports science specialists alone.
Indeed, since Conte’s arrival at Tottenham in November of last year, the ÂŁ18 million-rated 21-year-old has appeared in all but one of the 14 games in which he has been available for selection.

It’s easy to understand why, since in his 18 Premier League outings so far this season, the ÂŁ25k-per-week academy graduate has excelled for Spurs, averaging 42.3 passes, 0.7 interceptions, 1.8 tackles, and winning 3.6 duels – with a success rate of 54% – per game.
