Florian Thauvin has become Newcastle’s fifth summer arrival.
The 22-year-old joined from Marseille on a five yer contract and will wear the number 20 shirt.
As part of the agreement, Remy Cabella has moved to Marseille on loan for the duration of the season.
The club has an obligation to buy Cabella subject to certain criteria being met during the campaign.
Under-20 World Cup Winner
The Frenchman has represented his national side at Under-18,19,20 and 21 level, whilst playing a key role in the team that won the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup.
Florian Thauvin spoke to the club website: “I am delighted to be a Newcastle United player.”
“I have come from France to a really big club and am very happy to be here.”
Newcastle boss Steve McClaren said: “Florian is a player the club have been watching for a long time and I am delighted that we have been able to sign him.”
“He is a perfect signing for this club – someone who is young, with great potential, and is one of the best young players in Europe.”
