Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hailed their new signing Ruben Dias.

The new defender from Benfica has cost a hefty £65m, making him the third most expensive defender on the planet followed by VVD of Liverpool and Harry Maguire of Manchester United.

Speaking after Wednesday’s EFL Cup win over Burnley, Guardiola said: “We know Ruben Dias’s personality and I am sure he will be an incredible player for the next six or seven years.

“We’re very happy to have him. Our back four are now a young team. We start training tomorrow and get going as quick as possible.”

City can now field a back four of Aymeric Laporte, Dias, Cancelo and Mendy and should they click, they can keep the team alive for a span of four to five years.

Pep also thanked outgoing defender Nicolas Otamendi for his contribution to City.

He added: “I have to thank Nicolas Otamendi, part of the incredible success we have had in recent years. The season we won the league with 100 points he was incredible. He played with a broken ankle, with 20 stitches, he had a great mentality so I wish him and his family all the best. He will be one of the things I will always remember about this club.”
