Pep Guardiola fears Gabriel Jesus could miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured metatarsal.
The Brazilian was forced off due to the injury during Manchester City’s win over Bournemouth, and now Pep Guardiola has said he does not know if the forward will play again this season.
“I don’t know if Gabriel Jesus will play again this season. They say [he could be out for] two or three months,” Guardiola said ahead of City’s FA Cup tie against Huddersfield on Saturday. “Last night he had an operation, it was good, really good.
“The most important thing now is a good recovery and he is going back when he will be fit, I don’t know if it will be the end of the season or next season.
“Now to be calm, all our support to him and his family and waiting for when he is coming back.”
Guardiola was also asked about another star striker in his side, Sergio Aguero – who has been linked with a move away from Manchester since Gabriel Jesus hit the ground running.
Guardiola said: “It’s not easy for the player who does not play. Sergio was more than professional.
“I don’t have doubts about Sergio Aguero. He has to do what he has done since the beginning of his career. Nothing more.”
While it is no doubt a shame that young Jesus will miss the rest of the season through this injury, especially when in such blistering form, Sergio Aguero is a more than capable option for Manchester City, should Pep Guardiola choose to utilize him.
