France international opts to stay put in Serie A for another season

Juventus’ Paul Pogba is understood to have turned down the chance to join Chelsea on a £8.75 million-a-year contract.

The reigning Premier League champions, Chelsea are understood to have agreed a fee of £62 million for the midfielder, who was allowed to leave Manchester United back in 2012.

Ten days before the window closed, a fee had been agreed between Chelsea and Juventus, however, despite a lucrative package being put in place, Pogba turned down the chance to move to Stamford Bridge.

Pogba will be worth €100 million

Giuseppe Marotta, general director at Juventus, believes Pogba will be worth €100 million come the end of the season if he continues to perform like he did last season, where he helped the Old Lady to the Champions League final.

“If Pogba continues his performance of last season, I think next year, €100 million will not suffice.” said Marotta.

It is a bonus for Juventus, who had already lost star players such as Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.

Juventus would have had to returned to the transfer market before the window shut to sign a replacement for the 22-year-old, but his personal choice to stay in Italy is a plus for the reigning Serie A champions.
