Los Blancos are targeting the former Barcelona midfielder

Real Madrid are hoping they can tempt Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas to the Santiago Bernabeu this season, after an underwhelming campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The news will come as a shock to both Blues and Barcelona fans, after a disappointing campaign for the Spaniard, while Barca will hope their academy graduate doesn’t link up with their rivals.

Blues fans had partially blamed Fabregas for former boss Jose Mourinho’s departure on the Spain international, along with Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, but it now seems the players’ future could be back in Spain, with reports suggesting Real are interested in his services.

Fabregas has failed to even come close to the form, this season, that helped Chelsea win the Premier League last campaign.

Sources in Spain claim Real president Florentino Perez is a big admirer of the Catalonian, and, despite his associations with Barcelona, a deal for the midfielder could go through this summer with Antonio Conte looking to bring in his own midfield options.

Radja Nainggolan and Miralem Pjanic are both understood to be primary targets for Conte, who will take over at Stamford Bridge after Italy’s European Championship campaign comes to a conclusion.

And another boost for Real will be that Fabregas has already admitted that he would like to play the final years of his career back in Spain.

“Yes, why not? Now, I do not think that because I have many outstanding bills at Chelsea after how it went this season,” Fabregas admitted.

“I do not really think of anything else, but in my opinion, the Spanish league is the strongest with the English.”

The former Arsenal man has admitted a second return to Barcelona is not on the cards, meaning it would most likely be a switch to either of Real or Atletico Madrid.

“To return to Barca would no longer be possible, it is impossible even if I wanted to. The Barcelona stage is over, it is closed.”
