World Cup winner chooses Italy

Sami Khedira has dealt a blow to Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal after passing a medical at Italian giants Juventus.

Khedira, 28, decided against signing a new deal with Real Madrid, and looks to be set for a move to the Serie A champions this summer.

Deal Close

Juventus director Beppe Marotta said: “We are very close to Sami Khedira and will announce it officially when pen is put to paper.

“We moved swiftly and tenaciously because he has everything we were looking for.

“It is a winning group and we took the opportunity to further raise the quality level.”

Khedira at Madrid

Khedira has made over 100 La Liga appearances for Real since arriving in 2010 from German club Vfb Stuttgart.

In the five years midfielder Khedira has been with the Bernabeu club, he has won La Liga once, one Champions League title, and the Copa Del Rey twice.

He has struggled in recent months with injury, but still seems set to make ÂŁ2.85m per year should he sign with the Turin club.

Premier League Interest

The news of his impending move to Italy is a blow for the summer transfer plans of United and FA Cup winners Arsenal, who are looking to close the gap to champions Chelsea.

It is also a setback for Blues boss Jose Mourinho, who wants to keep the trophy at Stamford Bridge next term. It seems these three clubs, as well as Real, will have to plan for next season with Khedira, who is set to begin an Italian Job.
