Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that Hugo Lloris will captain the side despite the drunk driving charge he received a few weeks back. The France goalkeeper pleaded guilty at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. He received a fine of ÂŁ50,000 and has been banned from driving for 20 months.

Hugo Lloris is currently out of action due to a thigh injury and will miss Tottenham’s match against Liverpool tomorrow. There’s a chance that the Frenchman will not play for  a while. Pochettino said that Lloris has suffered the consequences of his mistake.

The Argentine said, “I think of course that he regrets everything. All that happened yesterday is not good and, of course, he does not feel great. He said that he was guilty and that he was responsible. But I think the most important is that anyone can make a mistake. He made a mistake and he is suffering.

He is punishing himself – but we are not God that we can judge people only. We are men and women and we can all mistakes. He said he is sorry and he is a man and accepts his mistake.

He said ‘gaffer, it is a massive lesson for me. I made a mistake and now I need to pay’.”

When asked if Lloris will remain Spurs captain, Pochettino replied, “Of course.”

Following their match against Liverpool tomorrow, Spurs begin their Champions League campaign against Inter Milan on Tuesday. Tottenham’s Champions League group also consists of Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven.
