Pochettino impressed with Tottenham’s 1-0 victory over Burnley
Tottenham Hotspur claimed all three points on offer with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Burnley at Wembley in the Premier League on Saturday. It looked as if the game was heading for a draw but Christian Eriksen’s injury-time winner meant that Spurs once again finished the week 3rd in the standings.
The Lilywhites created plenty of chances and had as many as 15 attempts (only 3 on goal) but let themselves down with some poor finishing. In the end, it was the Danish playmaker who sealed the game for Mauricio Pochettino’s men as Tottenham’s relentlessness paid off amidst Burnley’s time-wasting tactics.
Pochettino was impressed with the result and spoke of his team in glowing terms. The Argentine gaffer said, “In football, you can win by scoring in the first minute or the last minute. The victory was the same.”
“We showed real character. Belief. Our physical character was so strong. We won with other players, but we keep the same attitude of the team.
“We played with Skippy in midfield, with Ben Davies at centre back. Then we won.
“But the belief is what I am most pleased about because the team is really a team. When you feel that the team manages all the circumstances or problems, you start to feel you are really a team that is going to fight for big things.
“We can play with two strikers, one formation or another. For a team to arrive at that point, that is the most pleasing thing for us.”
