Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino says out of plan striker Vincent Janssen is now back in his plans for the rest of this season.
To put context into this, the Dutchman hasn’t played for Spurs since August 2017, and didn’t even feature on the bench during the first part of this campaign, having not been listed in the club’s Premier League squad. As a result, the striker could only play for the U-23s.
Hence, it was clearly understood that he will leave north London during the recently concluded January transfer window, but somehow, he managed to stay at Tottenham.
Few days ago, Pochettino said that the Dutchman is not involved in his plans, despite his team suffering injuries to main forward players Harry Kane and Dele Alli.
But the Argentinian has changed his mind and now Janssen will be included in the Premier League squad for the second part of this season.
Pochettino said: “I think he’s going to be on the list, he’s going to be involved.
“That is my decision, my decision that he’s going to be involved with the first team from today and he’s going to be like another player, involved with the chances if he deserves it to be in the squad or to play.
“For different reasons – but the principle reason was a sporting decision – one year ago we decided to send him on loan and then in the last year he didn’t play because he was injured.
“But I think after [it was about] trying to find solutions because the player wanted to leave the club and the club wanted to provide for him another place to play football.
“My decision is from today he’s going to be involved with the first team, to try to do his best, to get fit and be competitive, and he’s going to be one more in the squad and the team.”
Tottenham play Newcastle in their league game at Wembley tomorrow afternoon.
