Aston Villa held talks with the agent of former Tottenham, Manchester United and Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov, but decided against signing the 34-year-old striker on the grounds that his wage demands were too high.
Berbatov is a free agent after his contract expired at French club Monaco. He would be available for transfer outside the window though.
Meanwhile, Villa have ended their interest in signing Emmanuel AdebayorManchester. They had a deal agreed with Tottenham for the striker in late July, but Adebayor rejected the move and Villa have not pursued him since.
