The Frenchman understands Gunners fans frustrations

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has apologised for the discontent among the club’s fans, during their narrow 1-0 win over Norwich City on Saturday.

Fans staged protests in the 12th and 78th minute, holding up cards reading: ‘time for change’, in protest towards the lack of silverware Wenger has brought to the club, since the club’s ‘Invincibles’ side went undefeated all season, to win the league in 2004.

There were a significant number of empty seats at the Emirates, as Arsenal stole the three points through substitute Danny Welbeck’s goal, in the second half. And Wenger believes the atmosphere in recent weeks has affected the club.

“You want to make the fans happy.” said Wenger.

“I’m sorry if I don’t achieve it. I’m irritated and frustrated if I cannot keep people happy.

“I have respect for the club and gave so much for the club – I want to make people happy.”

Time up for Wenger?

The Frenchman has undoubtedly done a lot for the Gunners, while also ensuring they have attained Champions League football on a consistent basis, but two FA Cup successes in recent years isn’t enough for the club’s fans.

Arsenal have failed to make a significant impact in Europe, since their 2006 final against Barcelona, and have regularly looked promising in the league, before falling short in the latter stages of the season.

And with Leicester set to secure their first Premier League title this campaign, fans are becoming more and more concerned that the club are not moving forward, and have, again, squandered a great opportunity to secure the league title.
