West Ham United have joined Crystal Palace in the battle to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, according to reports.

The Mirror claims the two London clubs have turned their attentions to the Belgian international after missing out on Michy Batshuayi and Alexandre Lacazette respectively.

Benteke endured a frustrating first season on Merseyside after his arrival from Aston Villa, and Jurgen Klopp arriving as Reds boss, whilst galvanising the club’s fortunes, have not done the same for the forward.

Klopp seems to want Benteke off the club’s wage bill, his current deal is worth £120,000 per week, so a split seems on the cards.

Batshuayi looked to be on his way to Palace after the Eagles agreed a £31m deal with Marseille on Monday. But Chelsea came in at the last minute.

West Ham have been frustrated too, Lyon playing hardball over Lacazette, the French club demanding £40m,. The Hammers are seemingly not prepared to go that high.

Both clubs may now turn their attentions to Benteke,  currently on Euro 2016 duty. The Red Devils of Belgium play their Quarter Final against Wales in Lille on Friday.
