Manchester United’s Javier Hernandez is reportedly the subject of a scintillating transfer approach from Liverpool

Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is tracking Hernandez, 27, in a bid to freshen his strike force. The news has emerged after a failed bid for Carlos Bacca and with Mario Balotelli, Rickie Lambert and Fabio Borini all heading for the exit door.

The Manchester United outcast spent last season on loan at Real Madrid, where he failed to make a lasting impression as he only managed nine goals in 33 appearances at the Santiago Bernabeu.

After a disappointing 2014-15 campaign the Anfield club are undergoing a major squad overhaul. Liverpool have already snapped up the likes of Roberto Firmino and James Milner, Rodgers is now a looking at a possible deal for Hernandez.

LVG stays firm

The 27-year-old will return to Manchester for pre-season but any future at Old-Trafford looks highly unlikely, with the Mexican forward being placed out of favour since Sir Alex Ferguson‘s departure in 2013.

And, according to Spanish press AS, Liverpool are looking to raid their North-West rivals and have made an opening bid for Hernandez.

United are unlikely to sell to another English club, and it is believed the Reds will have to beat Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan to his signature.

Nevertheless, Liverpool are set to go ahead with an audacious bid for the disillusioned striker.
