Gary Neville has told Sky Sports he was shocked to see the result of Manchester United signing Alexis Sanchez.
The former Udinese and Barcelona star was brought to the Premier League by Arsene Wenger to play for Arsenal where he became one of the best players in the league. However, in his last year with the Gunners, he refused to extend his contract prompting other big hitters of the PL to get into a bidding war for him.
It was United who won the race signing Alexis for a huge fee. However, since then the move has failed and the Chilean is now at Inter Milan on loan.
“We’ve watched Alexis Sanchez before during his years at Arsenal, he’s tenacious, a goalscorer, giving his all every single minute of every game,” Neville said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.
“No-one could have foreseen the disaster that was about to happen with Alexis Sanchez.
“I don’t know what happened to him.
“That wasn’t the Alexis Sanchez that played at Arsenal.
“He wasn’t [really] old when United signed him. He’d been proven.”
“We knew United would get only a couple of years out of him, I know his wages were massive,” Neville added.
“But my point is, no-one could have foreseen how bad he would be for the club.”
