Tebas takes shot at Premier League

La Liga president Javier Tebas has taken a direct shot at Premier League in England saying that they have not produced a single Ballon d’Or winner in the last decade.

Tebas was being interviewed by catalan radio RAC1 when he was asked about Neymar’s possible return to Spain. The Brazilian superstar played for Barcelona before completing a world record move to Paris Saint Germain.  It was then that Tebas took a shot at English Premier League saying that La Liga attracts the superstars who can be the world’s best players.

“Neymar returning to Spain? We want as many stars as possible of course and he is one of the global stars,” Tebas said. “But the important thing for us is to have a strong brand, like England’s Premier League, and they have not had Ballon d’Or winners in many years.”

Tebas is in fact right to say that as in the last decade only two players have won the Ballon d’Or which was finally broken by Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric this season. The last 10 winners were Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi on five occasions each. However, to be fair to the Premier League as well, they were the ones who made Ronaldo what he is today.
