The veteran defender admits he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea defender John Terry has admitted he would like to sign a new contract at Stamford Bridge, and stay with the couple for another couple of seasons.

The 35-year-old former England international admitted, after the Blues’ 5-1 win over MK Dons in the FA Cup in January, that he had not been offered a new deal and would leave the club in the summer.

However, the Blues captain has stunned the club’s fans by announcing he wants to extend his stay in west London, despite the defender having offers from both the MLS and China.

Antonio Conte is set to take charge of the club this summer, and the final decision on whether Terry stays at Stamford Bridge will be solely down to the current Italy boss.

But speaking to Danish club Brondby’s YouTube channel, Terry said: “I still want to play for a couple more years, hopefully at Chelsea,

“I’m a Chelsea player and Chelsea’s been my club from the age of 14. I love Chelsea.”

Terry spent some of his youth career at West Ham United, before joining Chelsea’s academy, and has gone on to make over 700 appearances for the club, while winning the Premier League, FA Cup, League Cup, Champions League and Europa League, have been his biggest successes.

The club legend will miss the rest of the season through suspension, after receiving two yellows against Sunderland at the weekend. And that was thought to have been Terry’s final appearance for the Blues, with games against Liverpool and Leicester City still to come, in the league.

Meanwhile, a potential move to the MLS seems to have been hindered by a wage cap that would mean the former England international would only be able to earn as much as ÂŁ5000 a week. However, interest from the Chinese Super League means that, if Conte decides not to renew Terry’s contract, he could be set for one final big payday in Asia.
