Weigl says Dortmund blocked his PSG move

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl has said the club blocked his move to PSG this month.

“I have to accept that those responsible at the club didn’t want to release me (from his contract),” Weigl told German magazine Sport Bild. “Now my full concentration is on being successful with BVB [Dortmund].”

PSG were suffering for long in the middle of the park with most of their options running out. They had midfielders in Diarra who was too old and then there was Verratti who is a brilliant player on his day but spends most of his time out of action due to his unfortunate but rather serious injuries. This left them with Adrien Rabiot in midfield who despite so many problems did not get enough game time with PSG.

Now the club decided earlier this month, they were keen on selling Rabiot or rather watch him sit out till the end of his contract in the summer as he was unwilling to sign a new contract with the club. So the club was fast falling short of options and had to look around to get new signings on board. They targeted Weigl from Germany and Paredes from Russia but Dortmund blocked the move.
