The striker’s agent had an ace up her sleeve.
Mauro Icardi completed his season-long loan move to Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
The Argentine international made a shock loan move to France, with the Ligue 1 club holding an option to buy, having seen himself squeezed out at Inter Milan following the rivals of former Manchester United duo Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez.
Icardi‘s time at Inter had turned sour long before that though, with rows and legal action blighting his latter period at a club for whom he’s scored 124 goals in 219 games.
But now, just few days later, the wife and agent of Mauro Icardi, Wanda Nara, discussed the move in public and denied the striker has fallen out of love with Inter Milan, despite having the captaincy taken from him.
In an interview for Corriere Della Sera, Nara stressed that Icardi’s move to the French side doesn’t mean his time at the Milanese club is over.
“I talked to coach Antonio Conte, they had assured him that they were strengthening the team regardless. Football is a business, Giuseppe Marotta makes the decisions and has to look after the accounts. If I waited until the last moment to agree a deal with Paris Saint-Germain, it is because I had an ace up my sleeve. Nobody knew, not even the kids.”

“It’s not a divorce, Mauro and Inter are like boyfriends who are taking a break for reflection. His desire to play for Inter and the love for the fans remain,” she said. “Suing Inter wasn’t about money, only the ignorant believe that. If it was for money, he would’ve left three-four years ago, when Inter weren’t playing in the Champions League. He stayed out of love.
Wanda also revealed that Icardi could have ended up at Juventus last summer: “Icardi going to Juventus for Higuain and €50 million? I won’t mention team names, but the other player came to the city of Milan, but not to the club Inter Milan.
“As captain, Mauro would never have left the club, it was a strategy to sell him. Why was the armband removed? They were eager to sell him to Juventus, but he refused, saying ‘I am the captain’. There, the relationship broke.”
Icardi will now team up with Neymar along with star forwards Edinson Cavani and Kylian Mbappe as PSG manager Thomas Tuchel looks to create an attacking lineup capable of winning an, as yet, elusive Champions League title.
