Neymar is unlikely to face Manchester United next month

PSG head coach Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that Neymar is unlikely to travel to the Old Trafford to face Manchester United in the Champions League next month after the Brazilian was sidelined with a metatarsal injury.

Neymar limped off the pitch in PSG’s win over Strasbourg, with the Brazilian suffering a painful recurrence of his earlier injury.

And Tuchel has admitted that the chances of having him available for the trip to Man United are very slim.

“It’s going to be super difficult,” he said.

“As I explained [on Saturday] it’s too early to talk about a return date. We have to wait for the first week, which is very important, and his reaction to treatment.

“Only after that can we be more precise. But it’s going to be super difficult – that’s not a secret.”

Even though PSG have the services of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria at their disposal to cover for the absence of their most expensive player, they are currently short of options in the middle of the park, with Adrien Rabiot and Marco Verratti out for the count.

PSG have been linked with Leandro Paredes in the transfer window but Tuchel is unsure whether the club will be able to bring the player in before the deadline day.

“I’ve been expecting him already for a few days, but he isn’t here,” he said.

“I’ve been looking in the shower, in the dressing room, in the treatment room, with the goalkeepers… but he isn’t there.”
