Draxler determined to stay at PSG and fight for his place

German star Julian Draxler insists he is happy to stay at PSG despite facing stiff competition from the likes of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder joined the French giants from Schalke back in 2017 but his involvement has been somewhat limited at the capital, with Angel Di Maria, Neymar, Edinson Cavani and Mbappe all above him in the pecking order.

He has been in good form in the Ligue 1 this term and has delivered the goods when called upon by manager Thomas Tuchel but the German hasn’t been favoured in the Champions League games.

Draxler, however, is determined to stay put and fight for his place in the line-up, insisting that competition for places is only going to work in favour of his development in the longer run.

“Time goes very quickly… I signed for Paris just two years ago. I am as happy today as the day I arrived!” he told their official website.

“Sunday [against Lyon] will be a big match. The fact that it could be my 100th for Paris just makes it all the more exciting.

“I think I can do better. But when Neymar and Kylian arrived, I have been playing more and more in midfield, even in front of the defence in recent matches,” said Draxler.

“I’m not a goal scoring machine like them or Edinson Cavani. But since I’ve been here, I have progressed over the two years, especially since the coach Thomas Tuchel came to the club.

“Like I said, I’m very happy.”
