The Dutchman has returned the club to European football

Manchester United will not sack boss Louis Van Gaal and replace him with Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola.

Reports have suggested that the Red Devils were ready to sack the former Holland coach in a bid to land Guardiola, when his contract with Bayern Munich runs out at the end of the season.

United’s bitter rivals Manchester City are thought to be the favourites to bring Guardiola in as manager, while the top bosses at Old Trafford hope to install club legend Ryan Giggs to take over when Van Gaal’s contract runs out.

“The owners are completely happy with the job that Louis is doing.” A high-level source at Old Trafford confirmed.

“He has taken us back into the Champions League and we are once again challenging at the top of the Premier League.

“But it is the things he is doing behind the scenes, away from the gaze of the public and the media, that has been most impressive.”

United delighted with Van Gaal

United feel that appointing Guardiola as manager would undermine the work Van Gaal has done since appointing the Dutchman in May last year.

However, they are delighted with the work he is doing and will afford him the time and money to complete the task of returning the club to competing with the biggest clubs in Europe and winning the league.

“He has brought an organisation and discipline to the club, and any change of manager would undermine that work.” the source added.

Dutchman believes United won’t compete

Van Gaal, the man in question, has admitted that his side are still 12 months away from competing with Europe’s elite in the Champions League, as they head to Wolfsburg on Tuesday.

United are in need of a win to ensure they progress, but even if the Red Devils fail to qualify, the board will not be tempted by the speculation surrounding Guardiola’s future at the Allianz Arena.
