Bayern Munich have completed the signing of Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.

Manchester United and Liverpool have been in contact with the centre-back over a summer move as well.

Looks like Bayern have now won the race by dishing out €42.5 million ($51m) in transfer fees. The 22-year-old will join the Bavarians once this season is over. He was one of the most sought-after defenders across Europe after Matthijs de Ligt’s transfer saga in 2018.

Bayern Munich director Hasan Salihamidzic said: “We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano. We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years.”

“Upamecano is a young player, 22, whose qualities have already developed extraordinarily,” Salihamidzic added.

“I was always convinced that we had presented a good concept. We presented him with our vision of his career at Bayern. During the past week in Doha I had further talks with everyone involved.

“At the end of a long process, the players, family and management were convinced that FC Bayern was the right club.”

Upamecano will play out the season under Julian Nagelsmann. Leipzig are still alive in the Champions League, ready to face Liverpool next in the round of 16.
