Combined starting 11 of Arsenal and Bayern Munich as they face each other in the Champions League tonight

Arsenal face familiar foes in Bayern Munich in the Champions League tonight at the Emirates stadium. Ahead of the game, Sillyseason have picked their combined starting XI of the two teams.

There aren’t any prizes for guessing which team the majority of the players come from.

GK: Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich)

Absolutely guaranteed. The best goalkeeper in the world and nobody with any football sense would argue different.

RB: Phillip Lahm (Bayern)

Again, another outstanding defender with bags of experience. Captained Bayern for years along with his country Germany, and is an asset to any side, especially this one.

CB: Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)

He’s possibly the best defender in the Premier League at the moment, and really is one of the few Arsenal players who would easily get into this Bayern side, great defensively and dangerous at set-pieces too, and also a strong leader at the back.

CB: Jerome Boateng (Bayern)

Not too many should argue with this one. He’s more reliable than Dante and certainly does the job at the back. A real life partnership with Koscielny would be really interesting to see.

LB: David Alaba (Bayern)

Alaba is a strong part of Bayern’s defence. He’s good going forward and very physically fit, allowing him to get forward and back for almost the whole game. He will cause Arsenal plenty of problems tonight with his ability to act as an extra winger.

CDM: Xabi Alonso (Bayern)

One of the greatest passer’s of the ball football has ever seen. He’s 33 now but still a world class player, known in the Premier League due to his time at Liverpool, he’s been a Real Madrid since and he’s playing superb for Bayern now.

CDM: Santi Cazorla (Arsenal)

Just sneaks in ahead of Thomas Muller due to his precision and accuracy, especially at set-pieces. Cazorla has been one of Arsenal’s best signings of the last 5 years and is worth a place in this side despite tough competition.

LW: Alexis Sanchez (Arsenal)

World class player, Barcelona were fools to get rid. He’s worked magic for Arsenal since joining and could probably get into any top side in the world.

CAM: Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)

Despite much criticism over his first two seasons for the Gunners, Ozil has started this season in very good form and is starting to look like the player he was at Madrid. He just needs to keep going, his creativity is world class.

RW: Douglas Costa (Bayern)

Nice and pacy, causes lots of problems whichever side he plays on. His crossing ability is also something to be envied and feared, and he likes to have a go at defenders, which is something every winger should look to do.

ST: Robert Lewandowski (Bayern)

Of course it would be that man. He’s an absolute goal machine. 5 in 9 minutes against Wolfsburg showed exactly what he’s all about, absolutely the best striker in the world at the moment, with a chance at the Ballon d’Or.
