Gnabry has been one of the best players for the Bavarians this season.

Now is set to be on the sidelines for some time.

Bayern Munich have confirmed Serge Gnabry hurt his Achilles during training at the winter training camp in Doha, Qatar on Sunday. Gnabry was unable to take part in team training at the Aspire Academy on Sunday, and instead spent around 30 minutes working with the Bayern physios.

“Gnabry has an issue with his Achilles tendon,” coach Hansi Flick told reporters at a news conference. “He had to stop today’s running session early. We have to take that very seriously and hope that he returns soon.”

Gnabry was one of the stars of Bayern’s 2018/19 Bundesliga and DFB Cup double win, his 13 goals and nine assists in all competitions earning him the club’s Player of the Season award. The 24-year-old continues to impress, with 11 goals and eight assists to show for his 22 first-team appearances of the current campaign.

He has also become Joachim Low’s first-choice forward for Germany, having hit 10 goals in his last 10 internationals for the four-time world champions, including a hat-trick against Northern Ireland that ensured top spot in Euro 2020 qualifying Group C.

Bayern, who will spend 10 days in Doha, are already without top scorer Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman, Javi Martinez and Niklas Sule – all sidelined due to injuries. The quartet have remained in Munich to continue their rehabilitation at the club’s training base.
