United boss claiming he wants young winger to stay

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has claimed he has no desire to let young winger Adnan Januzaj leave the club next summer.

The 20-year-old winger was surprisingly sent out on loan to Borussia Dortmund on transfer deadline day.

Reports have since surfaced that there are plans in place to make Januzaj’s stay permanent as a makeweight for Dortmund forward Marco Reus.

But United have denied such rumours and insist that the Belgian still has a future at Old Trafford.

The news will likely come as a boost to Premier League rivals Liverpool, who have been heavily linked with a ÂŁ48million move for Reus in January.

“There were a number of clubs interested in buying Januzaj, but all those offers were rejected out of hand,” a United source told the Daily Mirror.

“We had no interest in selling a player who will be a big part of United’s future.

“The manager has assured him of that. The move to Dortmund will help his development and he will return to the club a better player because if the minutes he will get on the pitch.

“[Tyler] Blackett was given the same guarantees [before his move to Celtic]. He is seen as a Manchester United player.

“If there was no future for either player, they would have been sold rather than sent out on loan.”
