Ajax had a wonderful campaign where they played out of their skin. They surprised everybody in Europe and proved to be the shock package in this season’s dramatic UEFA Champions League.
They were the young guns who came out blazing and took out the three time defending champions Real Madrid before removing the Cristiano Ronaldo based outfit from Turin by the name of Juventus. They also almost had their way with Tottenham Hotspur in the semi final and it was only at the last minute they were left broken hearted by a late winner from Spurs.
Things could get worse for the Dutch outfit as they could be about to lose several of their star players due to shark clubs swooning in and around them for the summer. Already Frenkie De Jong is on his way out and he could be joined by De Ligt who is close to deciding his future.
“This is not the time to talk about my future,” he told Fox Sports. “I don’t know if I will go with Frenkie de Jong [to Barcelona]. I still have to analyse things and see everything. We’ll see what happens. I cannot say anything. We’ll see at the end of summer. There is nothing yet.”
De Ligt was delighted with Ajax’s campaign, saying: “It is indescribable. We have been craving this for five years. I enjoyed the cup, the competition, the Champions League and especially the team spirit.”
