Legend Kaka picks his favourite for the Milan derby.
AC Milan icon Kaka backed his former side to win the derby against Inter, and push for a first Sudetto in nine years.
The two neighbors meet at San Siro on Saturday evening for what promises to be yet another exciting installment of one of football’s most historic and storied rivalries.
Both clubs have started the season well, with AC Milan having taken six points out of nine thanks to wins against Brescia and Hellas Verona, which helped cancel out a defeat in the opening game against Udinese. They do however sit three points behind Inter Milan, who under Antonio Conte have beaten Lecce, Cagliari and Udinese to start the campaign with nine points out of nine.
Now former Rossoneri midfielder Kaka believes that his beloved club have what it takes to beat the rivals, despite the strength of the Nerazzurri, in this weekend’s first Derby della Madonnina of the season.
“I think for AC Milan the derby is really important, because it is the first one and it is AC Milan against Inter Milan,” he told DAZN. “We [AC Milan] are playing at home and it would be nice to see them win a derby like this.
“Inter have started the season very well and they have strong players, but in my opinion AC Milan will win. It will be good for their Scudetto chances. If they want to win the league, it’s important that they win this game.”
The San Siro side turned to Marco Giampaolo, was poached from Sampdoria during the close season, after finishing a point outside the Champions League qualifying places last season.
“So far I think he has done good. He’s great,” Kaka said. “If I’m not wrong, he has been in charge for just three games. What he is doing, he is doing it good. We will see. As a AC Milan supporter I’m expecting that they can win something this year and at least get back into the Champions League.”
It has been claimed that a great number of popular football legends will be present at the Giuseppe Meazza. Among the AC Milan legends present will be Marco van Basten, Marcel Desailly, Fabio Capello, Dida, Serginho, Mauro Tassotti, Marek Jankulovski and Massimo Ambrosini.
Ronaldo Nazario, who played for both sides, will be there too, as well as Gianluca Zambrotta and Christian Vieri.
