The Serie A side could end up snatching Fernandes, who had a brilliant last season in the Portuguese league.

Milan are said to be working on a deal for Sporting Lisbon’s midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports in Italy.

Fernandes was heavily linked with Manchester United for much of the summer window, but a move never materialized. He had also attracted interest from Tottenham, who were willing to go head-to-head with the Red Devils for his signature.

Tottenham apparently offered no more than €45 million up front, with a further €25 million in various add-ons to reach the asking price. Sporting are said to have wanted the full €70 million up front. Fernandes is then said to have interfered, telling sporting director Hugo Viana to push the deal through.

By this stage, Spurs had already agreed the deal to bring Giovani Lo Celso to the club and were going cold on Fernandes, while Sporting were running out of time to complete the formalities of the transfer. With the shutting of the Premier League transfer window, the 24-year-old was thought to remain in Portugal for the 2019/20 season.

However, Rai Sport‘s journalist Paolo Paganini has took to Twitter to reveal that Bruno Fernandes has held talks with Italian side AC Milan via one of the most popular super-agents, Jorge Mendes.

There have been various reports linking former Liverpool winger, Suso with a San Siro exit. Italian sides Roma and Fiorentina have emerged as favorites in case he falls out of favor in new Milan boss Marco Giampaolo’s formation change. Recently, even French side Lyon have publicly expressed their interest in him, as they look to bolster their roster at the start of the Ligue 1 season.

While Suso could be set for the exit door, AC Milan seem to have started looking for his replacement, with Fernandes topping the list, if it is to be believed the Italian report. The former Serie A player was one of the best in the Portuguese league last term, having netted 32 goals and provided 18 assists in 55 games for Sporting.

He has also worked with Marco Giampaolo previously while being part of the famous 2016-2017 Sampdoria, which made fans witness players such as Fernandes, Torreira, Skriniar, Muriel and Praet all wear the Blucerchiati jersey at the same time.
