The two important assets for the Giallorossi have undergone surgery.

Roma could be without Amadou Diawara for a month, while Edin Dzeko is not certain to play after the international break with a facial injury.

The Giallorossi have suffered from a spate of knee injuries in recent months, most recently Davide Zappacosta this week ruled out for five months by a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

In addition, Roma captain Edin Dzeko sustained a double fracture to his right cheekbone after a late clash of heads with Federico Mattiello in the 1-1 draw with Cagliari. As a result, Roma announced Dzeko underwent surgery this week.

“On Monday morning Edin Dzeko underwent a surgical procedure following the injury sustained during Sunday’s draw with Cagliari. The striker suffered two fractures to his right cheekbone during the game. During the surgery one of these fractures was treated manually, while the other required the insertion of a small plate with screws.

The surgery was completed by Professor Pesucci.”

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the Bosnian international could be out for a month due to the injury.

Meanwhile, Guinea have been dealt a huge blow after Amadou Diawara also suffered an injury against Cagliari on Sunday. Diawara lasted just 30 minutes of the game, and Il Messaggero were reporting he suffered an injury to the meniscus in his left knee.

Diawara, who was making his third appearance in Serie A this season, could only play 29 minutes of football before he was stretchered off at Stadio Olimpico. The summer-signing was in tears as he was whisked off to the Villa Stuart clinic in a medical vehicle for further examination and treatment.

Diawara was subsequently replaced by Mirko Antonucci as the Giallorossi grabbed a crucial point at home.

“Midfielder Amadou Diawara underwent surgery on Monday morning after suffering an injury during Sunday’s game against Cagliari. Professor Mariani performed a small procedure to repair a slight tear to the meniscus in his left knee. The procedure was a success and the player will begin work on his rehabilitation on Tuesday”, said Roma in another statement.

The reports add that this type of surgery requires approximately one to two months out.
