He was left out of Inter’s Serie A opener against Lecce on Monday and now Joao Mario has joined Lokomotiv Moscow on loan.
Lokomotiv Moscow has announced the signing of Joao Mario from Inter Milan on an initial season-long loan deal. The Russian Premier League club has the option to buy the 26-year-old at the end of the campaign.
Joao Mario joined Inter ahead of the 2016-17 season and made 32 appearances across all competitions in his debut season. He fell out of favor in the early months of the following campaign and was loaned out to Premier League side West Ham in January 2018, where he made 14 appearances.
The Portugal international made 22 appearances for Inter last season and was not selected for the club’s matchday squad for its Serie A opener against Lecce on Monday.
“I am very happy to have signed for Lokomotiv. I know that this is a great club that has had many famous and talented players. I asked Fernandes and Eder in the national team about Lokomotiv.”
“I consulted Eder before the transfer and he told me that Lokomotiv is a great squad with marvelous fans. Also, the fact that the club plays in the Champions League is a very important factor” the former Sporting player concluded.
Joao Mario, who could make his debut on Saturday when Lokomotiv hosts Rostock, has signed a season long loan deal which will see them pay his entire wages at €3,5 million net per season for the duration of the loan, with an option to make the transfer permanent set at €18 million should they choose to activate it.
