Cedric Soares joins Inter Milan on loan

Southampton defender Cedric Soares has joined Italian side Inter Milan on loan for the rest of this season, with an option to buy the Portuguese for on a permanent deal in the summer.

The 27-year-old has played over a 100 games for the Saints, predominantly at right-back or right wing-back. He was one of the regular starters in the team up until the arrival of new manager Ralph Hasenhuttl.

Cedric joined Southampton in 2015, and was one of the technically gifted fullbacks around. His speed to run up and down the wing, defensive awareness to stop the crosses and technical ability to deliver sumptuous crosses into the box attracted the interest of every Saints’ fan.

He registered ten assists for Southampton in the Premier League, and possessed the versatility to play on the left-hand side defensive line as well, if required.

Before arriving at the St. Mary’s, Cedric won Portuguese Cups with Academica and Sporting, the former in 2012 and the latter in 2015.

He is of course a European championship winner with the Portuguese national team. The 27-year-old played a huge part in his nation’s against “all odds win” over hosts France in 2016 to lift the crown and become the best team in Europe.

The fullback was also part of the World Cup squad in Russia, where Portugal went to the last-16 stage, before being eliminated by Uruguay.

He is now in the black and blue colours of Inter Milan.
