Juve play away to Bayer Leverkusen on Wednesday.

But they will be without one key man.

Maurizio Sarri’s midfield options at Juventus have become further depleted with the news that Rodrigo Bentancur has suffered a serious knee injury during the 3-1 defeat at Lazio on Saturday. The Uruguayan was substituted in the 41st minute to be replaced by Emre Can, and his problem could put Sarri in a tricky situation for their next Serie A game against Udinese.

“Following the diagnostic tests carried out this morning at J|Medical, this is the player’s diagnosis, who was forced to leave the action early in last night’s game,” read a statement.

“During the match against Lazio, Bentancur suffered direct bruising with consequent distraction of the medial collateral ligament of the right leg.

Both Miralem Pjanic and Juan Cuadrado will be suspended so will likely feature in the midweek Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen, but Sami Khedira is out for three months following surgery, while there are fitness doubts over Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Douglas Costa.

Juve have top spot in their Champions League group wrapped up, so Sarri can afford to give some of his stars a break in the game which is essentially a formality for the Italian champions, even if the Bundesliga outfit can still qualify for the next stage if they win and Atletico Madrid slip up against Lokomotiv Moscow.
