The Croat rejected an opportunity to move to Macnehster United in the summer.

Now he is set for a move in the Middle East.

Mario Mandzukic could be playing in Qatar after all, as talks have resumed with Juventus about playing in the region. The Croatian striker had been constantly linked with a move east after being told by Maurizio Sarri that he wasn’t in his plans at Juventus.

Mandzukic had been linked to Al Rayyan in September and it seemed a deal was in place, only for talks to break down as he wanted to stay in Europe. However since then, Manchester United, who had been interested in the player, have moved on to other targets, as have Borussia Dortmund, leaving the striker with few options.

In the interim he has remained on the margins, so much so that he is no longer included in the matchday squad and he has not attended the team’s Christmas party. That is a clear sign of how relations between him and the club, despite a contract renewal signed only a few months ago, have definitively deteriorated. Now, the 33-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball for Juventus this season, is ready to start a new adventure.

Sky Italia pundit Gianluca Di Marzio states that Al Rayyan have reopened talks with the Bianconeri about sealing a deal, and this time Mandzukic is thought to be willing to move. Serie A rivals AC Milan were also linked to Mandzukic, but his age goes against the club’s new policy of focusing on younger players with resale value.
