The Senegalese received a straight red card on Wednesday.

Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been given a two-match ban after seeing red for dissent against Cagliari.

Serie A’s sporting judge said on Friday that Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has been banned for two matches after insulting the referee when he was sent off in his side’s 1-0 defeated to Cagliari on Wednesday.

Koulibaly was shown a straight red card towards the end of Napoli’s 1-0 home defeat to Cagliari on Wednesday.

The FIGC’s sporting judge has now ruled that Koulibaly showed “a disrespectful attitude” to referee Marco Di Bello. The Senegalese is also fined €10,000 and will miss the Partenopei’s next Serie A games against Brescia and Torino.

Napoli’s Serie A title aspirations took a hit with a 1-0 home loss to Cagliari. Napoli was unfortunate when Dries Mertens hit both posts at the Stadio San Paolo and Cagliari substitute Lucas Castro was left completely unmarked in the center of the area to head in the winner in the 87th.

The Partenopei controlled large parts of the game but could not find a way past visiting goalkeeper Robin Olsen and hings got worse for Carlo Ancelotti’s side when substitute Kalidou Koulibaly was sent off for dissent after the goal.

The result left both sides on nine points but Napoli occupy fourth, ahead of fifth-placed Cagliari on goal difference.
