Navas admits he had no intentions to leave Bernabau this summer

Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas has admitted that he never wanted to leave Spain this summer

Navas seemed destined to go to Manchester United in the final few days of the window as part of a swap deal for David De Gea, but on the final day was denied by lost paperwork stopping the deal.

And Navas, who is now the No.1 keeper at Real following the departure of Iker Casillas to Porto, claims he had no desire to leave the Bernabeu.

“I never thought of leaving Real Madrid,” the Costa Rican said. “I always wanted to stay here. I am happy here and hope to stay for many years.

“The transfer to United was complicated, it is not a comfortable situation.

“But it’s now over to me and I am just trying to be focused on the present. That’s the only thing it matters. I am aware the fans always backed me in any situation.”
