Tottenham are planning to secure a deal for their former star player amid Manchester United interest.

According to reports, Tottenham are interested in signing Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale back to the club before the summer window closes on October 5.

Bale, 31, left White Hart Lane in 2013 for ÂŁ86m but could make a return to his former club with Real Madrid agreeing to pay half his wages.

Both Manchester United and Real Madrid are linked with the Welshman, but only Manchester United can afford the ÂŁ20million price tag.

Real Madrid are keen to offload the 31-year old this summer or else they will end up paying him another ÂŁ28million if they fail to find a suitor.

The Welshman struggled the last two seasons at Bernabeu making just 62 appearances and scoring 17 goals with a number of injury mishaps.

His teammate Luka Modric wants Bale’s future sorted at the earliest.

“For almost 12 years we are playing together and it’s a difficult situation for him and for the club,” he told The Times.

“Gareth needs to know what he wants to do. He is a grown man and needs to decide what is best for him.

“Does he feel happy here or does he want to try something else?

“But for me, Gareth is still a great player and still has a lot to offer in football.

“It just depends on him, if he has enough hunger or desire to keep going. I think he has but whether his situation finishes here or continues, he can still be an important player.”
