Juanfran has signed a new contract extension with Atletico Madrid

The deal will keep him at the club for a ninth season

Juanfran has signed a new one-year extension to his contract at Atletico Madrid, keeping him with the Europa League winners for a ninth season.

He has made 325 appearances to date for the Spanish side and has one LaLiga, two Europa League, one Spanish Super Cup, one Copa del Rey and one Spanish Super Cup title to his name.

The 33 year old has been a great servant for the club throughout the Diego Simeone’s era and has performed at high level constantly for the club. Though he is aware that the first team place is no longer guaranteed since the arrival of Sime Vrsaljko’s  at the club but still wants to continue.

The Spain International joined them from Osasuna for a fee of just over €4 million, signing a 4 year contract in the summer of 2011. He has been a mainstay at the club since then and establishing himself as one of the best full back in the league.

He made 30 appearances for the club in all competitions last season and helped his team to win the Europa League.

Juanfran told the club’s official website, www.atleticodemadrid.com: “Staying one more season at home makes me very proud and happy.

“I’m very excited about renewing one more year with the team of my life. My commitment and loyalty to this club make my heart just think about being a ‘Rojiblanco’ player.

“I just can’t wait for next season to start to continue giving the maximum in each match and make all the Atleticos feel proud of me. Forza Atleti.”

The veteran defender has been capped 22 times by Spain but was not selected in the World Cup squad.
