Alvaro Morata joins Atletico Madrid on loan
Alvaro Morata joins Atletico Madrid on loan for the rest for the next 18 months. Though, the La Liga side will have an option to buy him for €45m.
Morata joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017, for a then club-record fee of £60m and signed a five-year deal. However, he couldn’t replicate the expectations into consistent performances on the field.
He made 47 Premier League appearances, scoring 16 goals and missing a lot of chances, that frustrated many supporters at Stamford Bridge. His last start was against Nottingham Forest in a FA Cup tie on 5th of January. He said to the Spanish reporters: “I’ve spent days waiting for this.
Morata began his Atletico, before signing for city rivals Real Madrid later.
He added: “The past is the past, and it cannot be changed, and I’m very proud of it.
“I am looking forward to everything being completed so I can start training with my team-mates.
“I began my career at Atletico and the people who know where I come from and know my history know what this means for me.”
Diego Simeone’s side are currently second in the league table, two points behind leaders Barcelona. Their next game is at Real Betis next Sunday.
The La Liga side has made an official statement about the signing.
