Thomas Partey has reportedly decided to stay at Atletico Madrid and turn down Arsenal.
The Ghanian midfielder has a deal at Wanda Metropolitano which runs till 2023 but has a release clause in the region of £43 million. There have been reports that the Gunners have been trying to negotiate a deal with Partey and his agent to sign the central defensive midfielder.
The Ghanian international joined Atletico back in 2011 and barring 2 loan spells, has spent his pro career with the Rojablancos. He is now a regular for them and the 27 year old played 33 games for the club this season.
However, the release clause is definitely very low and there were scares that Atletico might lose Partey to Arsenal. However, latest reports coming out of Spain are saying that the midfielder has made up his mind to turn down Arsenal and stay in the club.
A new contract will be provided for the player that will see his £65,000 per week salary double and his release clause increase to £87.5 million.
It all remains to be seen how it plays out in the summer since Arsenal are in desperate need of a midfielder but Atletico value Partey highly and will want to keep their man or at least get a higher value for selling him!
