The iconic right back reveals he had an offer from the two giants.

In the end, he returned to his homeland to sign for Sao Paulo in August.

Dani Alves’ contract with Paris Saint-Germain expired at the end of the campaign, prompting speculation about where the iconic Brazil full-back would move to next. After an impressive and successful Copa America tournament with Brazil, Alves received many offers but he wanted a club that would give him the chance of playing in the 2022 World Cup.

In the end, he returned to Brazil to join Sao Paulo, the club he supports, on a contract until. But the right-back says he could have returned to the Camp Nou or the Allianz Stadium instead.

“I had the possibility of returning to Juventus. I had another possibility, because I wanted to, that was to return to Barcelona,” he explained in The Players Tribune, as cited by Diario AS. “But…would that have made me a better person or better professional?

“What I wanted, and this was decisive for me, was stability to be able to compete for the 2022 World Cup. This is where the process of accepting the next challenge began.

“Most clubs have not proposed this because they do not believe in me, they believe I have an expiration date. But my expiration date is decided by me. I have always been a free transfer. I decided where to play and when I would leave.” None offered what I wanted, except the team of my dreams. Only Sao Paulo believed in me”, ended Alves.

The Brazilian international won six La Liga titles and three Champions League with Barcelona, before claiming a Serie A-Coppa Italia double with Juventus.
