Barcelona has officially sold winger Malcom to Zenit St.Petersburg for a deal worth €40million, plus €5m more in variables.
The deal was confirmed in the Barcelona website on Friday. Malcom leaves Barcelona after joining them only one season ago. He came from AS Roma and was expected to take one season to get used to a new team and a new style of play. However, the move has not worked out and Barcelona has managed to squeeze out a handsome fee for a player who was not making much of an impact for them.
Fault should not only go to Malcom either who was already entering a team with high competition. There were the likes of Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi who are the established forwards of the team. On top of that Barcelona made some expensive additions in Philippe Coutinho, Ousmanne Dembele and Antoine Griezmann this month, who can all play in forward positions and each of those transfers cost well in excess of €100 million.
It only seemed fair for both parties to accept that the deal had not worked out and now Malcom will have a fresh start at football; a new opportunity in a new league to prove himself.
